How To: Migrate your cPanel account using Backup Wizard

Migration Options
There are two options when migrating a cPanel account. If you are migrating the account to a new server where you have root access and access to WHM, you can proceed using the Transfer tool which automatically transfers your data. You can also use this option if your new host will restore the full backup for you.
If you don’t have access to WHM, then you proceed with the guide below, which is a manual restoration of the files.
Migrating A cPanel Account Using the Backup Wizard
Create A Full cPanel Backup
Step 1: In cPanel, Click the Backup Wizard button to open the Backups menu:
Step 2: Click the “back Up” button to start creating a backup:
You will then be given the option to download a full backup, or to select a partial backup. For this, we will be using the partial backup function.
There is currently no way to restore a full backup using the cPanel interface and if only used for keeping a copy of your data on your local machine.
Step 3: Click on the “Home Directory” button
This will take you to a new screen where you need to click on the blue “Home Directory” button to download the backup. This will automatically download the backup of your files to your computers Downloads folder.
Step 4: Repeat the above steps using the “MySQL Databases” options if you have any databases stored on your cPanel.
Restore the Full Account Backup
Open cPanel and under the Backups Wizard option, click on the restore button:
You will be given the option to restore your home files or your databases.
Click on the option you would like to restore first. In this example, the “Home Directory”
You Will be asked to choose a file to restore:
In the popup, navigate to your folder where your backups are stored and select the correct file. It will be usually labelled “backup-DOMAIN NAME-DATE OF BACKUP.tar”
Click on the file and select open. The file name will be shown next to the upload button. You can then click upload to restore your files.
To restore your databases, please follow the guide but instead using the “MySQL Databases” options.
